Organizing Things with Sections
This is a default plugin feature — sections are how the default plugin organizes its Things. A custom plugin may organize its entities differently, or not at all.
As you accumulate Things, you'll want to keep them tidy. Sections are the default plugin's grouping mechanism on the Thing list page — think of them as folders that hold related Things.
What sections do
Every Thing belongs to at most one section, and you choose (or create) a section when you add a Thing. On the list page, Things are grouped under their sections, which gives you a scannable, organized view rather than one long undifferentiated list. Both sections and the Things within them carry an order, so you can arrange them the way you think about your work.
Working with sections
From the list page you can:
- create a section (including inline, while adding a Thing);
- reorder Things within a section, and reorder the sections themselves, by drag-and-drop;
- rename a section inline;
- filter the list by status and section together — for example, show every
newThing in one particular section.
Deleting a section
You can delete a section only when it's empty — a section that still contains Things can't be deleted. That guard is deliberate: it keeps you from orphaning work with a stray click. Move or remove the Things first, then the empty section can go.
